Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program of prevention and lifestyle improvement designed to assist one in positive health enhancement. The program provides medically directed exercise therapy and lifestyle modification programs for individuals who have or may be at risk for cardiovascular-related diseases. Cardiac Rehabilitation also provides programming for musculoskeletal related issues, i.e., weight resistance exercise for improvement in strength stretching for increased flexibility.
CARDIOVASCULAR EXERCISE THERAPY:
Comprehensive outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is offered by New Orleans East Hospital (NOEH). This program of supervised and monitored exercise therapy and educational intervention is offered on an on-going basis. Some of the goals of the program include:
BEING “HEART HEALTHY”Patients who benefit from this service usually have or have had one of the following:
Heart rate and blood pressure are monitored with each exercise session. ECG rhythm strips are generated as directed by the referring physician. Complete progress reports are sent to the referring physician on a periodic basis or on request.
This program may also be appropriate for those who may be at risk for coronary heart disease. Specifically, if you have one or more of the following, this program will be beneficial:
MUSCULOSKELETAL STRENGTHENING & FLEXIBILITY
Staff will provide specific exercise to enhance a patient’s musculoskeletal abilities and flexibility. If physician-approved, these services will be provided up to three times per week in addition to the cardiovascular exercise therapy. Through the utilization of specific equipment designed for this purpose, a participant will experience significant gains in musculoskeletal strength and flexibility.
The cost of the program is usually covered by insurance if you were referred by a physician and have the proper diagnosis for cardiac rehabilitation.
