We are proud to offer superb digestive care services with advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures. Digestive health is diagnosed, treated, and managed by providers called gastroenterologists. They are experts in diseases the affect all organs of the digestive tract, also called the gastrointestinal (GI) system, primarily the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver, among others. The purpose of these organs is to digest and move food, absorb nutrients, and remove waste from the body.

Our board-certified gastroenterologists treat all conditions that impact how the digestive system functions by identifying and treating the organs and structures of the GI tract. To do this, we utilize the most advanced, leading-edge equipment to diagnose, treat, and perform minimally invasive surgeries to meet patient treatment goals. You can rely on our GI team to use research-backed, medically advanced treatments that are as minimally invasive as possible.

How can a gastroenterologist help me?

New Orleans East Clinic provides digestive services to the surrounding community. Our compassionate Digestive Care team does more than just treat your symptoms – we educate both adults and children on what they need to do to improve their digestive health. Our gastroenterology team is well trained in managing diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. Your primary care provider may refer you to a gastroenterologist if you have symptoms like unexplained blood in your stool, difficulty swallowing, or debilitating abdominal pain. Others may seek preventative digestive care if they are 50+ years old, especially because older adults have an increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Your gastroenterologist will take a thorough medical history, conduct a physical examination, and order specific tests of your digestive system to make an accurate diagnosis. Examples of such tests include endoscopy, colonoscopy, or X-rays. If you need one or more of these tests, your gastroenterologist will provide detailed instructions on how to prepare in advance, as many require fasting or other preparatory work.

Symptoms of digestive problems

You don’t have to live with symptoms like chronic bloating, gas, indigestion, or chronic stomachaches. These symptoms may indicate you should be treated by a GI doctor who can diagnose your condition and ultimately improve your quality of life by helping you navigate life with a potentially chronic (ongoing) condition. Most people don’t go directly to a gastroenterologist at first – rather, they are referred to one by their primary care doctor. If you have a child experiencing stomach pain lasting more than a few days, consider scheduling an appointment with their pediatrician so they can get the relief they deserve.
